Tak Miyata│Founding Partner and CEO, Scrum Ventures

Based in San Francisco and Tokyo, he runs a venture capital firm that invests in tech startups in Japan and the US. To date, he has executed investments in over 100 startups in mobility, fintech, IoT, VR, commerce, and healthcare. Prior to that, he started an image analysis software startup in the U.S. and a mobile service startup in Japan, and experienced exits in both Japan and the U.S. In 2009, he became the Director of Alliances at mixi, and later served as the CEO of mixi America. After continued angel investing as an individual, he founded Scrum Ventures in 2013. He holds a B.S. in Thin Film Materials Engineering from the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University.

Naoki "Nick" Sugimoto│ CEO, Honda Innovations

Nick Sugimoto is the CEO of Honda Innovations, Co., Ltd. (www.hondainnovations.com), the global open innovation HQ of Honda based in Tokyo, Japan. Nick also serves as Chairman of Honda Innovations Silicon Valley, Inc. based in Mountain View, CA. Nick oversees Honda’s advanced technology collaboration projects, as well as strategic partnership programs on global basis. Prior to joining Honda, Nick was a successful entrepreneur as well as venture investor in both the US and Japan. Nick received his engineering degree from the University of Tokyo and MBA from Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.

Yabumoto Yusuke│"General Manager,JAL Innovation lab,, JAPAN AIRLINES VENTURES

Yusuke joined Japan Airlines upon graduating from Osaka University of Foreign Studies (now Osaka University Faculty of Foreign Studies) in 2001. After working in the Sales, Corporate Planning Dep, and Public Relations Dep, he was assigned to Silicon Valley in 2018. 12 companies have been invested in the JAL Innovation Fund, which was established in 2019. Yusuke returned to Japan in June of this year and as GM of JAL Innovation Lab, he is accelerating open innovation by implementing new initiatives such as business development with portfolio companies and business contests in a short period of time.

Fumiko Uraki│Senior Director, Frontier & Open Innovation Division, Mitsubishi Chemical Group

Started career at BASF and worked in electronic materials, inorganic commodities, and pharma specialty materials businesses. Served as senior manager of BASF Venture Capital from 2008. Then joined MCGC in 2016 and took the lead role to set up the venture group and its subsidiary company, Diamond Edge Ventures, in Silicon Valley to accelerate startup engagement and investment. The team made globally 10 investments. Leads Frontier & Open Innovation Div. from July.
